WILCOX, Miss Alexis Ann, 18, a resident of of Brantley, Alabama, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2018, after a courageous fight against cancer. Funeral services for Miss Wilcox will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, June 28, at the Brantley High School Gymnasium. Interment will follow in Dozier Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Alex was a proud graduate of Brantley High School, where she excelled at softball, volleyball, and basketball. After graduation, she received a scholarship to play softball for Mississippi State University. She was also a lifelong member of Brantley United Methodist Church. Alex was an inspiration to every life that she touched. She was greatly loved and admired, and she will be sorely missed. Alex was preceded in death by her grandfather, Patrick Michael Wilcox. She is survived by her parents, Shaun and LeAnn Flowers Wilcox; sister, Kassidy Lyn Wilcox; grandparents, Shirley F. Wilcox and Jimmy and Ann Flowers; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Her former teammates and coaches from Brantley High School and Mississippi State will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to either The Alex Strong Memorial Scholarship Fund, ℅ of Brantley Bank & Trust, P. O. Box 25, Brantley, Alabama 36009, or to Geaux Teal, P.O. Box 82778, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70884. The family will receive friends at the gymnasium on Wednesday, beginning at 6 PM. Alex will lie-in-state there on Thursday for one hour prior to the service.
