Allen Johnson

Mr. John Allen Johnson, 70, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, November 5, 2019. A graveside service for Mr. Johnson will be held at 12 PM on Thursday, November 7, in Sasser Cemetery with Brother Jeff Grimes officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Dozier High School, and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Education from Troy State University. He spent much of his working career in the timber business, and later traveling the country with pipeliner crews. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard of Alabama. He enjoyed his time working with children as a football coach. He especially enjoyed any activity that allowed him to be outdoors, particularly playing golf. He also served as the songleader at the Sasser church of Christ for many years. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, who brought a tremendous amount of joy to his entire family. He had a kind, compassionate heart, and never met a stranger. His perpetual smiles and fierce, loving hugs will forever be remembered by all those who knew and loved him.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Elizabeth Raines Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Rhonda Gaines Johnson; their two children, Amanda (Jason) Hilburn and Hunter Johnson (Amanda Strength); five grandchildren, Katelynne Hilburn, Braden Hilburn, Gracie Johnson, Anslie Johnson, and Hank Johnson; three siblings, Jimmy (Linda) Johnson, Lynn (Dianne) Johnson, and Debra (Rex) Wallace; and several nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Stephen Johnson, Parker Wallace, Donnie Bodiford, Sam Noblin, Donnie Piggott, and Ricky Compton. Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at service time.
