Alma Ruth Pruitt

August 13, 1958 — May 1, 2020

Luverne

Mrs. Alma Ruth Pruitt, 61, a lifelong resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 1, 2020.

Mrs. Pruitt was well-known and loved throughout her community. She was an excellent cook, and enjoyed sharing those skills with everyone. She worked in the lunchroom at Luverne High School for over 26 years, and loved her Luverne Tigers dearly. She also worked at two of Luverne’s favorite restaurants, the Chicken Shack and Annie’s. She was a devout Christian, and that kind of love for others radiated from her. She could instantly brighten someone’s day because she always had a smile on her face. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister whose loss will be felt for many years to come.

Mrs. Pruitt was preceded in death by her parents, James Athey and Bernice Owens Duncan, and two siblings, Bessie Lou Frazier and James Harold Duncan. She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Herman Douglass Pruitt Sr; three sons, Herman D. Pruitt Jr, Charles Wesley Pruitt (Samantha Augusta Phelps), and Eric (Hope) Pruitt; five grandchildren, Austin Ray Pruitt, Chelsi Pruitt, David Wayne Pruitt, Matthew Pruitt, and Michelle Johnson; eight siblings, Judy Fay Cartwright, Joe Ray (Brenda) Owens, Barbara Ann (Eddie Paul) Frazier, Robert Mack (Renee) Duncan, Emma Gail Duncan, Kenneth Ray (Debra) Duncan, Phyllis Oliver, and Linda Jean (Bobby) Jordan; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be James Crowe, Herman D. Pruitt Jr, Charles Wesley Pruitt, and Eric Pruitt.
