Wetumpka

Alva Edwin Smith, 77, a resident of Headland, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Wetumpka Health & Rehabilitation on Tuesday, March 25th, 2025. A graveside service for Alva will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 29th, in Old Ebenezer Cemetery with Mike Hassell delivering the eulogy and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.

Alva spent his professional career as a welder for the railroad until he retired after over 20 years of hard work with them. In his free time, he loved fishing and following sports, especially his beloved Auburn Tigers. His love of sports extended to also helping coach younger kids to play the sports he loved so much. Alva was a great person to know because he was dependable as the day is long as well as being a dedicated, hard worker. You knew that when you dealt with him, he was always going to be upfront, straightforward, and honest with you, no matter what....and that is certainly a rare breed in this day and time. Above all, he was a devoted father and "Pappy" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved the time he spent making fun memories that they will continue to cherish and hold dear for many more years to come.

Alva was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Stegall & Willie Grey Supple Smith, and brother, John Alonzo Smith. He is survived by his children, Conrad (Jennifer) Smith, Paul (Dianne) Smith, and Donna Barton; grandchildren, Corey (Jennifer) Shelley, Levi Smith, Jeremy (Carmen) Smith, Gabby (Joshua) Will, Gracie Smith, and Joseph (Lorelei) Smith; great-grandchildren, Brailee, Laken, Dawson, Emerson, Tucker, Warren, Savannah, and Mavery, who is about to make her appearance; siblings, Charlie Grey Smith, Ruby (Mike) Hassell, Frances Watts, and Amanda (John) Dews; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Corey Shelley, Levi Smith, Jeremy Smith, Joshua Will, Landel Odom, and Gary Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Ebenezer Cemetery Fund, c/o Katie Russell Cleghorn, 191 Cedar Hill Road, Ramer, Alabama 36069.
