Obituary

Alvin Ray Chesser, 79, a resident of Lapine, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation on Thursday, August 13th, 2026. Funeral services for Alvin will be held at 11 AM on Monday, August 17th, at Magnolia Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck Francisco officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery there with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the service.

Alvin was the kind of gentle, loving soul who everyone adored. Lord knows he loved people with all his heart, and you would never find anyone more generous. There was nothing he loved more than talking to people, to the point he would flag down cars while sitting in the yard and wave them over so he could talk their ear off about anything and everything. He was easy to love because you knew you were always gonna get nothing but the truth from him, and that he was 100% trustworthy with anything you shared in confidence with him. Alvin also loved going coon-hunting with family and friends and also enjoyed selling & trading coon dogs.

Above all, he was a devoted brother and uncle throughout his life, especially when it came to his "girls," his beloved sisters, and his niece, Donna, who was his go-to "person" for many years now. He loved all the wonderful Southern staples and home-cooking they all made for him. Everyone who knew him has a great story or twelve about Alvin, and he'll be fondly remembered for these last few years because he never went to bed without his trusty flashlight to hold off the dark and his cellphone which was his lifeline to his cherished family whenever he needed them.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, George Julius & Sallie Mae Hall Chesser; siblings, Joe Chesser, Leon Chesser, Ora Mae Fox, Margie Sexton, John Tom Chesser, Adeline Godwin, Billy Chesser, Lonnie Chesser, Fontel Chesser; niece, Jennifer Pouncey; and nephews, Michael Chesser, Thomas Chesser, and Billy Royal. He is survived by his loving sister, Minnie Lee Royal; nieces, Sylvia Parker, Donna Stephens, Patricia Powell; nephews, Johnny Fox, Ronald Fox, and Timothy Chesser; lifelong best friend, Kenny McGough; and numerous other extended family members and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Johnny Fox, Ronald Fox, Bobby Stephens, Matthew Pouncey, Austin Stephens, and Kenny McGough. Honorary pallbearers Harold Burgans, Stan Bowen, Herman Kelly, Randy Arthur, Edmund Payne, Don Henderson, Timothy Chesser, and Aaron Barfield.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staffs of Luverne Health & Rehabilitation and Aveanna Hospice for their loving care of Alvin.
