Andrew Allen Lowery

December 14, 1958 — March 20, 2025

Luverne

It is extremely hard to summarize a life in a few well-phrased words.

On December 14, 1958, Jim and Bonnie Lowery welcomed their son, Andrew Allen Lowery into this world. As the baby of the family, Andy had to be tough to survive a life with two older brothers (Eddie and Harold). Of the three, Andy was by far the most mischievous and remained so until his last day. Bonnie would often tell the story of dropping Andy off a school only to get home to find him sitting on the front porch with that sly smirk on his face. But, despite all his antics, it you truly knew Andy, you had to love Andy. He was as authentic as they come, never pretending to be anything other than himself.

Andy was a proud 1978 graduate of Luverne High School. He was always undersized but played football like he was the "biggest, baddest" player on the field. He received the best back award his senior year as a 130 lb. outside linebacker. He never knew the work "quit" at any time in his life, especially since he has been fighting this health battle the last 5 years.

Andy had many "careers" in his lifetime. He graduated from MacArthur Tech with his electrician certification and pursued this career for a few years. He was a firefighter with the City of Montgomery for 3 years and drove for Arrow Disposal for 4 years. But, he found his true calling in driving a truck for Averitt Trucking for 19 years. Andy could drive (and tinker) with anything with a motor. He raced dirt bikes as a teenager, drove a Harley in his adulthood, and had a lawn service in his 50's and 60's. His abilities behind the wheel were unsurpassed. He was a proud member of the local "biker" club for many years and made some lifelong friends along the way.

Andy had a wicked sense of humor and a love of classic hard rock metal bands. He was a faithful Auburn Tiger fan and continued to watch the games every Saturday. His humor was especially evident at Christmas with his unique gifts for his family. His employment with Averitt provided some interesting "salvage" gifts. One year it was gloves for everyone. But the most memorable was the year he gave everyone vienna sausages and potted meat.

Andy was a truly special person and you were blessed if he was your friend. He worked hard and lived a simple life. Andy loved his family, especially his children, Dustin and Madison. And his nephews and nieces adored him. He was the fun, slightly crazy, Uncle Andy. But they knew that he would be there for them if needed. He was much loved and will be missed.

Andy was preceded in death by his father, James "Jim" Lowery; mother, Bonnie Williams Lowery; brother, Eddie Lowery; and nephew, Heath Lowery. He is survived by his children, Dustin Lowery and Madison Lowery; brother, Harold (Audee) Lowery; sister-in-law, Joy Lowery; nephew, Edward (Terrie) Lowery; nieces, Melissa Lowery and Misty (Brad) Meredith; and numerous great-nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A special thank you to his friends and family who took the time to visit him, pray for him, and not forget him. Thank you to Dr. Charles Tompkins for his compassion and counsel during this time. No words are sufficient to express our thank you to the nurses, aides, and support staff of Hall 5 at Luverne Health and Rehab. Your loving care for Andy these last 5 months has been unsurpassed. And, thank you to everyone for your prayers and phone calls during this time.
