Anita Louise Gallander

July 15, 1954 — June 25, 2023

Lapine

Anita Louise Welch Gallander, 68, a resident of Lapine, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly will with the people she loved the most on Sunday, June 25, 2023. Funeral services for Anita will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, June 28th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Brother Stae Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Berea Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service.

Anita was the proverbial hostess with the mostest! There wasn't a family gathering she wasn't insistent upon hosting because there were few things she loved more than bringing her family together for food, fun, and laughter. And you better believe that her beloved banana pudding was ALWAYS on the menu, at the request of both family and friends. The best time of year in Anita's book was always Christmas. When I say she decked the halls, I mean she decked the halls of her home. She was going to have multiple Christmas trees and decorations throughout both the inside and outside of her home. It was a magical time of the year for Anita and she made sure it was as special as possible for everyone she loved so dearly.

Anita was generous to a fault because she was always such a selfless person throughout her entire life. She devoted her life to raising her family in a loving and nourishing environment to the benefit of multiple generations of her family. Anita was also a huge fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide and enjoyed cheering them on every football season. She also loved to nourish her flower garden and could spend a quiet afternoon just communing with nature there. And the animal world certainly never had a better friend. Anita was the type of person who carried food and treats in her car just in case she saw an animal who looked like it needed a little love. If you wound up with a few spare cats around, it was probably because "Grammy" was feeding them on the sly! Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were definitely her favorite people in the world, though those fur grandbabies were a close second! Sadie, Cole, Hook, Prissy, Daisey, Hank, Oakley, and Sam received just as much of Grammy's attention as their human counterparts, and probably a little extra spoiling. Obviously, Grammy was the BEST and there will never be another like her. Her loved ones were blessed by the time they had together and it will be those memories that they will turn to for comfort in the days, months, and years to come.

Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Gallander; granddaughter, Morgan Hussey; parents, William Liston & Gracie Mae Edwards Welch; and sister, June Wiggins. She is survived by her beloved children, Atina (Jeremy) Hussey, Gregory Gallander (Selena Jackson), Shannon Smith, and Glenn (Mandy) Smith; grandchildren, Cooper Gallander, Kaylee Lindsay, Caitlyn Fuller, Brooke Smith, Bradley Smith, Tera Walker, and Gracie Smith; three great-grandchildren, siblings, Louella Pointer, Cleida Crawford, Curtis Riley Welch, Dorlean Gregson, and William L. Welch Jr; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Linard Cosme, Gregory Gallander, Cooper Gallander, Jesse Warren, Jeremy Hussey, Liston Welch, Clarence Hudson, and Craig McCullough.
