Annette Gibson

September 3, 1940 — July 30, 2024

Luverne

Annette Freeman Gibson, 83, a resident of Ramer, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. A celebration of Annette's life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 10th, at Friendship Baptist Church in Grady, Alabama with Rev. Chuck Francisco officiating. Family and friends will meet at the church at the service time.

Annette simply shined with the love of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. There were few things she enjoyed more than reading her Bible and both singing & listening to gospel music. More than that, she loved her fellow man exactly as Jesus taught her to do. Like the widow in one of His parables, Annette was often subject to give the last nickel she possessed if someone else needed it. That's a rare kind of love and should be a lasting legacy for all those who were touched by her kindness and love. It didn't hurt that Annette simply loved spending time with people. She never met a stranger because there wasn't a single person she met she wasn't willing to have a short or long conversation with.

That love wasn't exclusive to people either, because you could bet Annette was going to take care of any animal she encountered who needed it. Whether it was one of her beloved dogs or the neighborhood stray cats, if she had a dollar in her pocket, they were going to eat! And don't bother arguing with her that she's breaking the rules by feeding those cats because once Annette's mind was made up, it would be easier to convince the sun to stop shining. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to three generations. Of course, while she loved her daughters, there was no one this "Maw Maw" loved more than all those generations of grandchildren! They were all perfect in her eyes (so don't you dare try to discipline them) and they were truly her favorite people in this world. That's the kind of grandmother you never forget and one whose love will echo throughout the generations for years to come. Words cannot express how much she will be missed by all those she leaves behind, but comfort may be found in the knowledge that she is now rejoicing in Heaven with those who were waiting for her.

Annette was preceded in death by her loving husband, James "Red" Gibson; their daughters, Cathy White and Jamie Allen; her parents, Richard & Ruby Moss Freeman; and sister, Jeweline Fuller. She is survived by her beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie & Reggie Dunn and Regina & Gary Cremeens; grandchildren, Jessie (Jason) Ogletree, Chase (Katie) White, Carie (Rob) Lince, Tanner Norris, and Sawyer Norris; great-grandchildren, Tye (Emily), Ansley (Jared), Kolton, Addison, Garrett, Easton, R.J., Cam, Cason, Trenton, Daxten, Colton, and O'livia; great-great-grandchildren, Willow and Maggie; siblings, Evelyn Joyce Lolley, Jannette Williams, Buddy (Kathy) Freeman, Joyce Faye Carraway, and Brenda Page; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
