Annie Holmes Scott, 90, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation on Tuesday, October 13th, 2026. A graveside service for Annie will be held at 2 PM on Friday, October 16th, in Brantley Cemetery with Rev. Johnny Jones officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing the services. Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.
Annie was as good as they come. A phenomenal Christian woman who stayed strong in her faith no matter how many slings and arrows life threw her way, and there were plenty of them. She was a longtime and faithful member of Free Will Baptist Church and always cherished her church family there. She took pride in staying home to manage their homestead and raise her family. She taught her children how to live off the land from gardening to tending to all the livestock and farm animals. Money wasn't plenty but, boy, love sure was. Every one of those children grew up loved with all her heart and soul and never doubted that for one minute. That's the most important gift any parent can give their child and that's such a phenomenal legacy to leave behind.
Annie was such a generous woman with her love and her time. Her face would light up whenever anyone paid a visit. Her favorite place to be was always her beloved home and her favorite thing to do was host big family gatherings, especially at Thanksgiving. I swear, those tables groaned from the amount of delightfully delicious dishes that emerged from her kitchen. That being said, Annie was also a real pistol. She never failed to stand up for herself or her loved ones.....though without her brass knuckles because the police confiscated those many years ago!! Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, and Granny to the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were her heart and soul, and she will be missed more than words could possibly express.
Annie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene Scott; daughters, Shelia Markham & Melinda Scott; granddaughter, Tracy Compton; great-grandsons, Jacob Compton & Bradyn White; her parents, Caney & Liller Wicker Holmes; and her siblings, Dorothy Crowe, Mary Goodwin, Christine Hurley, Betty Walker, Ray Holmes, Hayward Holmes, and James Holmes.
She is survived by her children, Patricia (Travis) Compton, Cathy (DeWayne) Dubose, Betty (Drew) Caldwell, Norma Ballard, and Melissa Scott; grandchildren, Chris Dean, Casey Dean, Tammy Dean, Blake Bryan, Zachary Bryan, Eric Compton, Brittany Compton, Justin Bayman, Shawn Dubose, Corey Robinson, Tiffany Scott, Jasmine Merritt, Lindsay Bailey, Lacey Bond, and Ariel Scott; 28 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Chris Dean, Blake Bryan, Zachary Bryan, Eric Compton, Justin Bayman, Shawn Dubose, and Corey Robinson.
