Asa Eric Dudley Jr

Mr. Asa Eric Dudley Jr, 93, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation on Tuesday, March 16, 2021. A graveside service for Mr. Dudley will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 19th, in Bethel Cemetery with David “Doc” Kirby delivering the eulogy and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Dudley was born in Phenix City, Alabama. He proudly served his country with the United States Army before moving to Troy to attend Troy State Teachers College. His love of sports led to a job writing for the school paper and an audition for a 15-minute sports program with the new radio station in town, WTBF. That audition would then lead to a part-time job, which, in turn, led to a broadcast career spanning five decades. After graduating from Troy in 1951, Mr. Dudley was brought on full-time at WTBF, where he would spend the rest of his career, holding, over time, the positions of Program Director, Station Manager, and, eventually, Co-Owner. After his retirement, he still enjoyed watching sports, as well as playing golf, reading Westerns, traveling, and tending to his yard. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Mr. Dudley was preceded in death by his mother, Marielle Cadenhead Dudley; his father & stepmother, Asa Eric Sr & Elizabeth Dudley; sister, Madeleine Dudley Proctor; and two brothers-in-law, Charles Proctor & Paul Jackson. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Oma Jean Everage Dudley; their son and daughter-in-law, Ross & Julie Dudley; his sister, Joyce Dudley Jackson; several nieces & nephews; and a special friend & caregiver, Sheila Kidd.

Active pallbearers will be Billy Powell, Gary Tolbert, Nick Shimoda, Ed Shirley, Wade Giddens, and Travis Kidd. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Gilchrist, Pat Tolbert, Tom Tolbert, Rob Tolbert, and John McVay.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Bethel Cemetery, ℅ William McDougald, 1238 Davis Road, Brantley, Alabama 36009.
