Barbara Sue Cordell

Barbara Brightwell Cordell, 77, of Highland Home, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, September 4th, 2022.

She was preceded by her husband, Daryel D. Cordell; father, Wallace L. Brightwell; mother, Addie V. Brightwell; brother, Gerald Brightwell; and sister, Darlene B. Laird. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Tara T. Arnold; son, Tryon K. Chesnutt; grandson, Mason Arnold; granddaughter, Jordan Renfro; and several nephews and nieces.

Although she lived in many places during her life, Barbara only considered two to be her home: Opelika, Alabama, where she lived and enjoyed more than 33 years of marriage to Daryel, and Highland Home, Alabama, where she spent her childhood and made most of her lifelong friends. Daryel and Barbara met through work and built a successful marriage and business (Dixie Paint Contractors) together. Their lives were full of enthusiasm, devotion, and amusement. They will be missed as much as they were loved.

A graveside memorial will be held on Friday, September 16th, 10am at the Sardis Cemetery in Highland Home. She and Daryel will be honored with a joint service as they requested. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Diabetes Association
