Barbara Day Lester, 69, a resident of Glenwood, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, December 4th, 2025, while surrounded by the people she loved the most in this world. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, December 8th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Chancellor officiating. She will then be laid to rest in Providence Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday for one hour prior to the service.

If you were to look up the definition of "spitfire" in any dictionary, you would most definitely a picture of Barbara Lester! Well, same goes for strong-willed (heck, stubborn), independent, and feisty.....but it also applies to the term Mama Bear, as well as kind and generous. That's just who Barbara was: a mash-up of a lot of contradictory traits who never failed to entertain you with her amazing personality. Truly, you were blessed if Barbara counted you as a member of her tribe, whether it be family or friend, because she'd fight a devil for you whenever you needed her to. Without a doubt, if you were ever in any kind of conflict or battle, Barbara was probably the #1 person you wanted to have on your side. She had the gift of being able to make even the most mundane of tasks entertaining with her witty personality, amazing outlook on life, and hilarious stories (that may or may not have been entirely accurate). She'll never know how many lives she touched through her loved and generosity, especially because it was rare to leave her presence without a smile on your face.

Now, don't get me wrong, Barbara didn't suffer fools gladly so you never had a doubt where you stood on her. She was the giver of hard truths some times, but never out of spite or meanness. Her goal was to keep you on the straight and narrow so you could always live up to your potential because she wanted the best for the people she loved and cared about. She was also a beloved member of her community in Glenwood, especially after her time running the Glenwood Cafe. And we can't forget her beloved church family at Fleetwood Baptist Church where she also served as a Sunday School teacher for 10 years and the church treasurer for many years. Barbara was a prime example of someone who knew and cherished the value of hard work. She worked numerous jobs in the poultry industry for much of her life. At home, she loved spending as much time tending to her gorgeous flowers and taking care of her hummingbirds. She was also a fantastic cook and everything that came out of her kitchen was absolutely scrumptious. Everyone was eating well when she decided to serve up one of her famous seafood boils. She also made some of the best desserts this side of heaven. Above all, she was a devoted mother and Granny to the four people who were her whole world. Words cannot properly express how much they loved her nor how much she will be so sorely missed, but her legacy of love and laughter will live on for many more years to come.

Barbara was preceded in death by an infant daughter; infant granddaughter, Chloe Dawn Lester; the father of her children, Ronnie Lester; parents, William Denzil & Mozelle Williams Day; and brothers, William Richard Day and Donnie Day. She is survived by her beloved children, Greg Lester and Brianna Lester; grandchildren, Brittany Lester and Micah Lester; her faithful canine companion, Snickers; sister, Sandra (Harry) Harris; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Jason Burgans, Eric Williamson, Jake Barefoot, Jason Sims, Tony Lester, Jason Lester, David Lester, and Lynn Gray.
