Barbara Smith

Mrs. Barbara L. Smith, 79, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away at Andalusia Health on Tuesday, July 28, 2020. A graveside service for Mrs. Smith will be held at 11 AM on Friday, July 31st, in Live Oak Cemetery with Rev. Donnie Burns officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mrs. Smith was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and was an integral part of her family. She proudly created a family tradition as the president of Luverne High School Marching Band Boosters for many years. She was also an excellent seamstress, proudly making the christening gowns for her children and grandchildren with her own hands. She and her husband founded their own business, B & S Refrigeration, and it continues as a family business to this day. Her love, help, and generosity of spirit will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Willard Anderson & Lavada Seales Mitchell, and three siblings, Dorothy Scott, David Mitchell, and Evelyn Griggs. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Billie Harold Smith; their three children, Sharron (Gary) Shirley, Andy (Lisa) Smith, and Amanda (Barry) Reeves; six grandchildren, Jared Shirley, Jeremy Shirley, KatieMarie Smith, Chloe Smith, Jayden Reeves, and Gabriella Fortner; four siblings, Marie Thomason, Harold (Mary) Mitchell, Margaret (Reuben) Burkett, and Darrell Mitchell; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Gary Shirley, Michael Shirey, Donnie Battle, Rickie Davis, Bruce J. Linzy, and Barry Reeves.
