Betsy Rose Byrd

October 27, 1950 — March 12, 2024

Goshen

Betsy Rose Tisdale Byrd, 73, a resident of Goshen, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Tuesday, March 12th, 2024. Funeral services for Betsy will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 15th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Sexton officiating and the eulogy being delivered by Barbara Lester. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Brantley with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday for one hour prior to the service.

Betsy possessed an inner strength that helped her to become her family's calm in the storms of their own lives. She loved them more than anything on this earth, and she loved nothing more than spoiling them as much as possible, but that didn't mean she was anyone's pushover. She had enough steel in her spine to handle any shenanigans her boys could possibly throw her way, who also knew that, if she broke out your full name, you might better run and hope she didn't catch you! However, I don't think those beloved grandchildren could ever do wrong in her eyes. After all, Grandma Byrd's house was the place to be for all of those grandchildren, especially if they were hungry! They all swear there was nothing that woman couldn't cook. Every dish that came out of her kitchen was finger-licking good, so much so that no one can pin down what her best dish was. She loved preparing absolute feasts for her family, especially on Thanksgiving, and they definitely loved eating them. More importantly, Betsy made sure to teach her grandchildren all of the valuable life skills she could, including sharing her love of fishing with them and teaching them how to cook. In her free time, she also loved to crochet and make absolutely beautiful quilts that were shared with family and friends. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was the rock her family was built upon. She has left them far too soon, but she will continue to live on in their hearts and minds for many more years to come.

Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Rose & Lula Bell Everage Tisdale. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Wayne Byrd; their children, Michael Dennison, Tina Dennison, Jimmy Dennison, Michael "Buck" Byrd, Steven Byrd, and Cristy B. Miles; grandchildren, Kimberly Byrd, Justin Byrd, Kasi (Josh) Wilson, Austin Jordan, Andrew (Page) Miles, Brandon Miles, Katie Pippin, Logan Byrd, Zach Dennison, and Farrah (Dalton) Clingan; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, June Edge and Buddy Tisdale; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Josh Wilson, Charles Drudy, Hunter Shaver, Greg Lester, Danny Dewrell, Ronnie Sexton, and Timmy Evans.
