Ms. Betty Lou Holley, 84, a resident of Fullers Crossroads near Luverne, Alabama, passed away in her home on Sunday, June 12th, 2022. Funeral services for Ms. Holley will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, June 15th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Brennan Peacock officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to service.
Betty attended Luverne High School where she excelled at academics and began a lifelong love affair with Crenshaw County. She went onto using her meticulous personality as a quality control laboratory tech in labs from Chemstrand in Pensacola, Florida to Luverne Slacks Factory in Luverne, Alabama. Betty may have never been described by anyone as “warm and fuzzy,” but you could guarantee that her word was her bond and you knew exactly where you stood with her.
In her free time Betty could do anything – from building a house to designing and creating the latest fashions without a pattern. She loved to, as her children rather impatiently described it, “dig up bones” or – more accurately described to fill the shoes of a consummate genealogy buff working in libraries across the country.
You could often find her in her beautiful yard working with her flowers and gold fish pond, but largely she was ‘just’ Mama and Grandma.
Ms. Holley was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Grady & Lou Ette Davis Holley, and sisters, Joyce Holley and Nelda Little. She is survived by her loving daughters and sons-in-law, Holley & Lonnie Lester, Kaye & Dwight Stone, and Jill & Mathan Holt; grandchildren, Houston (Kristin) Lester, Davis (Stevie) Lester, Spencer (Kimberly) Stone, Andrew (Alice) Stone, Joseph Holt, John Holt, and William Holt; great-grandsons, Shepherd Stone & Elliot Stone; siblings, Charlotte (Ben) Barganier, Grady Holley, Harry Holley, and Margaret Peacock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Houston Lester, Davis Lester, Spencer Stone, Andrew Stone, Joseph Holt, John Holt, William Holt, and Lonnie Lester.
