Mrs. Betty Middleton Pippin, 89, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation, on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023. A graveside service for Betty will be held at 2 PM on Friday, February 10th, in Live Oak Cemetery with Brother Clay Crum officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12:30 - 1:30 PM.
Betty was known far and wide as one of the beloved "Bread Ladies" in the area. She loved nothing more than sharing her amazing baking skills with her community. Deliveries of some of the most delicious homemade bread and other baked goods you could ever be blessed to enjoy were a true highlight for so many. She also enjoyed volunteering in the lunchroom at Luverne High School for many years. In her younger days, Betty was the front-facing secretary at the Pentagon for the Department of Defense for several years, which is where she met her first husband, William Pippin Sr, who eventually swept her off her feet and moved her back to the South. Their son considers her one of the strongest, most resilient people he has ever known. Despite her strong-willed and determined personality, she was also an exceptionally wonderful and thoughtful woman. One of the joys of her life was finding some item a loved one might love or enjoy whenever she was out shopping and being able to brighten their day with it. Betty was also an immaculate housekeeper and there was never a major holiday that she did not deck her house out in celebration. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother, stepmother, and grandmother who truly cherished her family above all else.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, William Albert Pippin Sr; parents, Thomas Rosier & Lillian Sloper Middleton; and sibings, Thomas Middleton Jr, Kenneth Middleton, Judi Moore, Shirley Gallagher, and Josephine Knott. She is survived by her loving husband, Jack Pittman; sons, Karl Pippin and William Pippin II; stepdaughters, Cynthia Summerhall and Rhonda Smith; and granddaughter, Celina Pippin.
