GRIMES, Mrs. Betty Jean Wright, 86, a resident of Highland Home, Alabama, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Thursday, June 14, 2018 in Jackson, Mississippi after a brief illness. Funeral services for Mrs. Wright will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 19, at Salem Church of Christ with Brother Larry Brady officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Betty was born on January 6, 1932 to James and Milo Grimes. In 1949, Betty met the love of her life, James C. Wright, in Montgomery, Alabama while working at Lloyd & Wright Candy Kitchen, which happened to be owned by James’s cousin, sister, and brother-in-law. After a brief courtship, James and Betty were married December 21, 1949. James was an active duty serviceman, a naval veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict. They began their lifelong adventure, living all over the country. Betty had a multitude of talents and passions, but was best known for her great skills in the kitchen and her love of gardening, where she was equally adept with vegetables and flowers. She was a 32-year member of Salem Church of Christ in Highland Home, Alabama. There she served with humility at every level with her church family, whom she will miss until they join her in the arms of her sweet Lord. Utterly devoted to her Lord and Savior, Betty was a true Proverbs 31 woman. She was a superb and loving mother, and is survived by her two devoted sons, James Stephen (Jane Ann) Wright of Madison, Mississippi and Paul Jeffrey (Sheila) Wright of Highland Home, Alabama. Betty will be dearly missed by her seven grandchildren, her precious loves, Daniel Stephen (Abbey) Wright, Shannon Renay (Jesse) Tah, Michael Kenneth (Dana) Wright, James Jeffrey Wright, Nathan Earl (Heidi) Wright, James Judson Wright, and Sara Katherine Jean Wright. Additionally, she is survived by six beloved great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10 - 11 AM.
