Billy Ray Brazell

April 3, 1945 — January 18, 2023

Rutledge

Mr. Billy Ray Brazell, 77, a resident of Rutledge, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Wednesday, January 18th, 2023. Funeral services for Billy will be held at 2 PM on Friday, January 20th, at Siloam Church with Brother Jason Holladay officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends in the church for one hour prior to the service.

It didn't take long for anyone who met Billy to realize he was as mischievous as Shakespeare's famous Puck. He had a quick wit, so he rarely failed to issue a great comeback for anything said to him. Don't expect him to remember your name, or call you by it even if he did, because everyone was "Fred" to him! Billy had a big, boisterous personality which meant he never truly met a stranger because he could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. While he often joked with others that he was lazy and proud of it, in actuality, he was an extremely hard-working man. He had an ingenious mind as well. If something was broken and he couldn't find the particular tool needed to fix it, he usually just made what he needed to get the job done or found a workaround to make his repair. Billy was a big boy who loved his big boy toys and never grew out of his more youthful personality, which made it so easy for his family and friends to love him so dearly. They always knew they could depend on him to be there when they needed him and that is the true measure of a loved and trusted good man.

Billy was preceded in death by his mother & stepfather, Ethel Wingard & Kermit Roberson; father & stepmother, Ray Sr & Dorothy "Dot" Brazell; and brothers, Jim Brazell and Ed Brazell. He is survived by his loving wife, Jo Page Brazell; daughter & son-in-law, Toni & Tony Johnson; stepson, Len (Jeanette) Page; grandchildren, Cory Boots (Natalie) Johnson, Hannah (Tristan) Thompson, Michael Spears Brazell, CJ Page, and Kiowa Page; great-grandson, Hayes Boots Johnson; and siblings, Ray Brazell & Sharon Brazell.

Active pallbearers will be Benson Peavy, Don Dunbar, Cory Boots Johnson, Michael Brazell, Donald Lunsford, Randy Bagents, Len Page, and Jonathan Bagents.
