Mr. William “Billy” Ray Crews, 65, a resident of Letohatchee, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, August 28, 2019. Funeral services for Mr. Crews will be held at 10 AM on Friday, August 30, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Pastor Ruby Beck officiating. Interment will follow at 3 PM in Oak Hill Cemetery, 720 1st Avenue, Oneonta, Alabama, with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Crews had a boisterous, loving personality that filled every room he entered. He was a jack of all trades who worked as a certified diesel mechanic and, later, as a restaurant manager. His hands were always at work, whether it was building or farming in his free time. He was a true outdoorsman, as he loved to hunt, fish, and ride his horses. The rodeo was a second home to him where he rode both bulls and broncos, as well as working as a rodeo clown and bullfighter. He had a special love for his horses and his dogs. Above all, he loved his family more than anything else. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, all of whom affectionately knew him as “Pee Paw.” His family returned that love, and they will sorely miss his presence in their lives.
Mr. Crews was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Levoy and Edith Wynell Walker Crews, and his grandmother, Lillie Mary Mitchell. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Shelley Hughes Crews; their two children, Niccole (Jason) Shepherd and Robert Crews; four grandchildren, Blair (Eric) Till, Danielle Daugherty, Jordan Shepherd, and Makayla Shepherd; two great-grandchildren, Adalyn Grace Till and Reece Till; five siblings, Evan (Rhonda) Crews, Melissa Brown, Karen (Mike) Galbreath, Aaron Murphree, and Sherman Murphree; two aunts, Lois Moseley and Judy Dungan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Active pallbearers will be Jason Shepherd, Brian Dungan, Grant Brown, Micah Reese, Bobby Crews, and Evan Crews. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to Reviving Ministries, 40 Old McGehee Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36105. They will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 9 - 10 AM.
