Mr. Billy Wayne Godwin, 77, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Flowers Hospital in Dothan on Monday, September 27, 2021. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 2nd, in Brantley Cemetery with Rev. Travis Johnson officiating and Jeff Register delivering the eulogy.
Mr. Godwin started logging in 1966 and continued operating his own timber business for 30 years before deciding to retire. He lived life to the fullest for as long as he was able to during his retirement. In his new free time, he loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and racing cars. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who treasured all of the time he was able to spend with his family. More than anything, he cherished all of the time he spent with his lifelong best friend and wife, Barbara. During 57 years blessed years of marriage, they were able to travel together and thoroughly enjoyed their lives in Brantley until his passing.
Mr. Godwin was preceded in death by his parents, W.C. & Florene Stricklin Godwin, and siblings, Linda Godwin and Edward Godwin. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Warrick Godwin; their children, Barbie (Jeff) Register and Shan (Haley) Godwin; grandchildren, Jayden (Zachary) Powell, Kamryn Ramer, Grey Godwin, Laken (Jacob) North, Halee Register (John Evans), and Jeffrey (Emily) Register; great-grandchildren, Everlee & Lynlee Evans, Hollis Register, and Ryland North; and sisters, Nan Free & Peggy (Pete) Johnson.
Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.
