Billy Wayne Hendrick

Elba

Billy "Bill" Wayne Hendrick, 72, a resident of Elba, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly at Mizell Memorial Hospital in Opp on Monday, February 5th, 2024. Funeral services for Bill will be held at 11 AM on Friday, February 9th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Rocky Pierce officiating. Interment will follow in Bullock Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, February 8th, from 6 to 8 PM. Bill will lie-in-state at the funeral home on Friday for one hour prior to the service.

Bill was, quite simply, the greatest husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle his family could have ever wished for. He has truly been the rock, the very foundation, of his family throughout his life. He taught his children by example the value of hard work as they watched him work in the logging industry for absolutely as long as he was physically able to do so. More importantly, he demonstrated the importance of having a generous and loving heart with your fellow man. He was well-known for his inability to say no to anyone who came to him in need, so he was often people's last hope for help. His example inspired so many others to emulate him in their own lives, and that is an incredible legacy to leave behind.

Otherwise, Bill was just a down to earth, simple kind of man. He had a humble heart that was always guided by love in most of what he did. He knew the great joy that could be found in the simple pleasures in life and embraced that with all of his heart. In his free time, you were nearly guaranteed to find him somewhere out in the beauty of God's creation. He enjoyed sports like fishing and hunting, like so many other Southern men, but there was nothing better to Bill than being able to make someone laugh. He had a phenomenal sense of humor and a God-given ability to brighten anyone's day just by being Bill! Words cannot possibly express the loss to his family as his passing has left a hole that will never be repaired; however, his loved ones will find comfort in his living on in their hearts and minds for many more years to come.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Eugene Hendrick Sr and Willadean Bryan Davis; brother, Kenneth Joe Hendrick; and another brother who passed in infancy. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Buena Paulette Hendrick; their children, April (Sonny) Cooper, Michael (Sharon) Hendrick, and Zachary (Morgine) Hendrick; grandchildren, Christi (Eric) Bludsworth, Chasity (Justin) Fisher, Aaron (Madyson) Hendrick, Ali Hendrick, Dahvie Hendrick, and Alister Hendrick; great-grandchildren, Bryce Bludsworth, Jayce Bludsworth, Jameson Fisher, and Weston Hendrick; brother, Eugene (Daffie) Hendrick Jr; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Eric Bludsworth, Zach Bryan, Joshua Cooper, Shane Hendrick, Aaron Hendrick, and Rusty Burkett.
