Mr. Billy Wayne Killingsworth Sr, 73, a resident of Elba, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly at the VA Medical Center in Birmingham on Tuesday, February 15th, 2022. A celebration of Mr. Killingsworth's life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, February 26th, in the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with a eulogy delivered by his daughter, Eunice Jones and directed by Turners Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home that Saturday from 1 - 2 PM.
Mr. Killingsworth proudly served his country with the United States Army and the Alabama National Guard for many years until his retirement with the rank of sergeant. He also worked in logging for much of his life until he also retired from that industry. In his personal life, Mr. Killingsworth was known as a generous man with a true heart of gold who would gladly do all he could to help his fellow man. There were few things he enjoyed doing more than working with his hands to build beautiful things like windmills. He was also an avid fisherman, and loved to keep others entertained with every new bawdy joke he discovered. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who truly cherished his family as more precious than gold. He was the kind of character about whom many stories will be told and shared for years to come.
Mr. Killingsworth was preceded in death by his twin children, Elizabeth & Joseph Killingsworth; grandson, Kristopher Jones; parents, Leamaul & Eunice Fowler Killingsworth; and six siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Petty Killingsworth; children, Billy Killingsworth Jr, Leamaul Ray (Stacey) Killingsworth, Eunice (Johnny) Jones, and Becky Killingsworth (Lee) Benbow; grandchildren, Steven Oliver, Kerrie Faulkner, Bella (Travis) McLeod, Matthew Faulkner, Rebecca Killingsworth, Alex Killingsworth, Zachary Killingsworth, Dillon Killingsworth, Auburn Kilpatrick, Connor Benbow, Whitney Jones, Melissa (Hunter) Borden, Samantha Jones, Kaylissa Mackey, and Trevor Davis; 16 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary A. Killingsworth & Betty Todd.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Children's Hospital of Alabama at www.childrensal.org.
