Billy Wayne White, 86, a resident of Honoraville, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly in a car accident on October 31st, 2025. Funeral services for Wayne will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, November 4th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Brother Dale Simmons officiating. He will then be laid to rest beside his beloved wife in Mt. Zion Methodist Church Cemetery, AKA, "The Lodge," with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service.
Wayne was a proud member of the Luverne High School Class of 1961. After spending much of his youth working on the family farm, his first "real" job was with the Luverne Peanut Company. Eventually, he landed at Rheem where he would spend the next 40 years working as a foreman for their HVAC crews until his retirement. However, Wayne wasn't the type to retire for the life of a "gentleman of leisure." Oh no, he then went to work at Highland Home School for another 15 years. And he definitely put most of us to shame with not only his work ethic but his gym habit as well given that he was still going to the gym everyday at the tender age of 86 years young!! We should all aspire to follow Wayne's example and there's no telling how successful we would be in our lives by doing so.
When folks start talking about people who are "salt of the earth," they were talking about Wayne. He was just the perfect blend of kindness, reliability, and honesty that anyone would want in their lives, either as a family member or friend. He loved spending his free time in the beauty of nature, whether it was fishing in his favorite pond or just taking a walk. He was the soul of generosity with his fellow man and approached life in general with a wonderful sense of humor. Wayne certainly called himself fortunate to marry the love of his wife, Eleanor Mothershed, in July of 1967 and cherished the two children they raised in their loving home. Even better, those treasured children provided them with a bevy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren to love even more! He not only inspired his children through his example but also the multiple generations who called him "PaPa." Words cannot describe how much he loved them nor how much they loved him, but they will never forget life lessons he instilled in them and the amazing example he set for them.
Wayne was preceded in death by cherished wife of 40 years, Eleanor Mothershed White; his parents, Ducion & Margie Owens White; and siblings, Willie B. White, Joseph L. White, Gerald E. White, Fay Swearinger, and Sybil Hardy. He is survived by his children & their spouses, Tracey White & Dewayne Owens and Jeffrey & Melissa White; grandchildren, Ashley (Andrew) Tomlin, TJ (Ashlynn) Gafford, Caitlyn (Jonathon) Spann, Dustin (Brittany) White, Abby (Jared) White, and Trey White; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Braxton, & Carson Wilkes, Korbynn, Everett, Scarlett, & Ozzy Gafford, Annaleigh, Ella Kate, & Maggie Spann, Claire & Collins White, and Hudson & Nash White; siblings, Louise Simmons, Sylvia Grant, Ray (Lorraine) White, Shirley (Guy) Simmons, and Raymond (Linda) White; brother-in-law, Willie Hardy; sister-in-law, Barbara White; best friends & gym buddies, Mike (Debra) Jones and Karen Swanzy; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Ashton Wilkes, Braxton Wilkes, Carson Wilkes, Dustin White, Jared White, and William Simmons.
