Buena Mae Holmes

Buena Mae Holmes, 87, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024. A graveside service for Buena will be held at 11 AM on Friday, October 4th, in Rocky Mount Cemetery with Rev. Donnie Holmes officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.

Buena had such an open and loving demeanor that she just never met a stranger, easily making friends wherever she went. She spent her professional career as a seamstress at Oxford Manufacturing where she not only loved what she did but also all of the wonderful people she worked with for so many years. In her free time, she enjoyed more domestic pursuits such as canning, sewing, and needlepoint. She was also a fantastic cook who could whip up anything she wanted in the kitchen, but her family swears no one ever made quite as delicious fried chicken and pecan pie as Buena did. She certainly knew how to enjoy the simplest pleasures in life, buoyed by her deep and fervent faith throughout her life. Above all, Buena was a dedicated wife, mother, and "Nanny" who enjoyed nothing more than the time she spent with her family. The legacy she leaves behind includes so many life lessons she instilled in her family over the years as she so often reminded them of the importance in living in such as way that you can still look yourself in the mirror everyday and that, no matter what, two wrongs never make a right!

Buena was preceded in death by her husband, Shelby Holmes; parents, Harsley & Lena Mae Moseley Wilkerson; and brother, Randy Edwards. She is survived by her beloved children, Cathy Cox and Tony (Dale) Holmes; grandchildren, Matt (Emily) Dean and Randi Dean; sister, Dobbie Weaver; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Tony Holmes, Tony Hodge, Bo Duke, Tim Weaver, Gary Dean, and Bodie Duke.
