Buna Mae Sanders

Luverne

Buna Mae Sanders, 86, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Crenshaw Community Hospital on Tuesday, May 6th, 2025. Funeral services for Buna Mae will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 10th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Dr. John Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in Brunson Chapel Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.

Buna Mae was about the hardest worker you'd ever meet, and she could do it all! She started out working in the slacks factory, as well as running a pool hall & game room with her husband, Jack, and then she also worked as both a cashier and as a caregiver with Home Health. That last occupation was probably the best suited for her kind and loving disposition. Buna Mae was definitely the person you wanted showing up at your door when you were having a bad day since she never failed to have an upbeat attitude and a big smile on her face. How could that not pick you up, no matter what was going on in your life?! We should all be so blessed to have a Buna Mae show up in our lives when we are most in need of a spark of joy like she carried with her wherever she went.

In her free time, Buna Mae loved spending time in the beauty of God's creation as she sat in her favorite rocking chair on her porch with her beloved canine companion, Annabelle, by her side, watching either the beautiful birds or the three generations of grandchildren who called her "Granny" playing. She was also an avid reader, especially of her Harlequin Romance novels to add a little spice to her life! And there was nothing more surprising than watching Buna Mae at one of her favorite live events, wrestling. She'd get so into it that even the wrestlers themselves would get absolutely tickled at her! Above all, she was a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother to three generations she loved with every bit of her heart. There was nothing she loved more than spending time with her treasured family and words cannot properly express how much she was loved nor how much she will be sorely missed.

Buna Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Jackson Sanders; sons, John Allen Sanders & Charles Olin Sanders; daughter-in-law, Joyce Sanders; parents, Mack Oliver & Florence Gallops Reeves; and siblings, Betty Biggs, Hurbert Reeves, Billy Reeves, and Cecil Reeves. She is survived by her beloved children, Abner Sanders, Jackie (Linda) Sanders, Kenneth (Wanda) Sanders, Jesse (Jennifer) Sanders, Marie (Larry) Freligh, Josie Bell (David) Mitchell, Teresa (James) Holstead, Mary Ann (July) Jablonski, and Tracy Horn; 28 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Murlene Petty; sister-in-law, Tula Reeves; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Larry Freligh, Clay Sipper, Chris Reeves, Nathan Henagan, Allen Sexton, William Simmons, Jimmy Ballard, and Bart Rodgers.
