Callie Sampley Hartin, 75, a resident of Lapine, Alabama, passed away at Jackson Hospital on Tuesday, August 19th, 2025. Funeral services for Callie will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, August 23rd, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Looney officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
Callie was most definitely a people person. She could strike up a conversation with literally anyone, and did it like second nature. These were assets in her jobs in both food service and retail; two industries she thrived in because she did get to meet and spend time with so many different people. No doubt her feisty personality always endeared her to her customers and kept them coming back for more! Given that Callie started working at the tender age of 15 and kept on working as long as her body would hold out, her love for people was genuine and true because most people would have long been burned out by working with the public.
At home, she loved tending to beautiful flower gardens as well as watching her favorite classic TV shows and game shows....along with a few true crime series and documentaries when the mood struck. And, boy, could she whip up a storm in the kitchen! What was her best dish, you ask? Every single one of them!!!! (But she got bonus points for her cornbread and dressing) Now, Callie might have been a little opinionated, but it was always done with love because she had a generous and caring heart above all. Just don't mess with the people she loved because she was as protective as any mama bear who has ever lived. Above all, she was a devoted mother and "Nanny" to her cherished grandchildren and great-grands. She loved them all with every inch of her heart and she was most certainly loved back just as much in return. Words cannot express how much Callie will be missed but she is leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories to live on in their hearts and minds for many more years to come.
Callie was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Cooper; son-in-law, Gary Dorsey; parents, David & Emma Walker Sampley; siblings, Billy Sampley, Ronnie Sampley, Donald Sampley, and Irene Flowers; and niece, Tabatha Sampley. She is survived by her beloved children, Traci Dorsey, Tammy (Lamar) Petty, and Tim Kelley; grandchildren, Cory (Cortney) Petty, Casey (Lauren) Petty, Amanda Frazier, Cyle (Amber) Petty, T.J. (Hayden) Kelley, Emmy Kelley, and Anna Johns; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Brayden, Cole, Rowan, Adeline, Ellis, Avery, Dean, and Garrett; loving companion, Gerald Hartin; siblings, Angeline Frazier, Lafayette (Ann) Sampley, and Jerry (Brenda) Sampley; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
