Carolyn spent much of her working career as the secretary at Brantley High School until her retirement in 1991. She was there during the administrations of four different principals, and every single one of them would tell you that Miss Carolyn was the one who actually ran everything!! After that, she missed working with the public so much that she spent several more years working at B & B Discount Drugs in Luverne. And who wouldn't have wanted to interact with Miss Carolyn?!! Her entire personality was encompassed by her love for others, and her empathy & patience were the perfect blend for actually dealing with the public. She could make anyone feel special with her loving and welcoming demeanor. At home, Carolyn loved cooking for people she loved. It's no surprise that everything she made was absolutely delicious, her white peas & cornbread were an entire meal by themselves, but the true stars were her baked goods, especially her pecan pie, peanut brittle. and divinity. On Saturdays in the Fall, you could count on her being right beside Lamar as he was cheering for their favorite team, the Alabama Crimson Tide, because of how much he enjoyed it. One of her favorite activities was all of the time she and her husband, Lamar, spent camping, primarily with their beloved group, Alabama Campers on Mission, with whom they could share the gospel with every camping trip. Carolyn truly loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with all of her heart and her church family at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she & Lamar were the oldest members.
Family meant everything to Carolyn, or "MeMomma," as she was known to the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who stole her heart completely when each one was born. They knew her door was always open to them, where they could always find an understanding shoulder to lean on and a belly full of some of the best Southern cooking there was. They also knew they could count on her support and cheering from the stands at every ballgame and event Carolyn could attend. That kind of love and support is critical to a child's well-being, so all of them thrived in the loving environment Carolyn helped to provide them. The Lord couldn't have made a better wife, mother, and "MeMomma" than Carolyn in the eyes of her family and the memory of her love and affectionate love pinches will live on in their hearts and minds throughout their lives.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Sissy Smyth; parents, Gladys Smith & Henry Schultz; and brother, Thomas Defee. She is survived by her beloved spouse of 68 years, Lamar Folmar; son & daughter-in-law, Tim & Hope Folmar; son-in-law, Mark Smyth; grandchildren, Ryan Gibson, Brandon (Alicia) Foxworth, Brittany (Cody) Eiland, Blake Foxworth; Blake (Bonnie) Folmar, and Suzanne (Mitch) Green; great-grandchildren, Olivia Gibson, Addison Foxworth, Maddox Gibson, Weston Foxworth, Jax Eiland, Sellers Folmar, Chandler Eiland, Truett Foxworth, Collins Folmar, Caroline Green, and Callie Green; brother-in-law, Ken (Loretta) Folmar; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Chad Carpenter, Chris Layton, TJ Defee, David Lowery, Ashley Kilcrease, and Andy Kimbro. Honorary pallbearers will be the Alabama Campers on Mission.
