Luverne

Charles "Charlie" Alton Dawson, 72, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly at Jackson Hospital on Wednesday, December 18th, 2024. A celebration of his life will be held at a later time.

Charlie was an extremely skilled electrician and worked for many years with the City of Luverne, where at 6'6" he was affectionately known as "Too Tall." There was nothing he loved more than spending time outside. Didn't matter what the activity was, hunting, fishing, or gardening, as long as Charlie could do it in the great outdoors, he was happy. However, there was no one better at gardening than Charlie was because there was just nothing he couldn't grow from the ground. During his free time at home, he was an avid reader, especially when it was able to educate him on a topic. He absolutely loved National Geographic and the Discovery Channel for the same reason. Happiness for him was discovering YouTube had live streams of elephants and other animals just doing their thing!

Charlie was a very quiet and reserved type man, but he also had an innate love of people. He was very even-tempered and there was almost no one he couldn't find something good to like about. He was a big Dallas Cowboys fan, loved his Milo's Extra Sweet Tea, and identified with Willie Nelson and his brand of country music. He was also a big animal lover and there was literally nothing funnier than watching the man people called "Too Tall" walking around with his tiny chihuahua companion, T-Rex! Above all, Charlie was just an easy-going guy who loved everyone and meant so much to the people who loved him in return. He will certainly be missed by all those who knew and loved him so dearly.

Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 36 years, Leah Williamson Dawson; parents, Alton David & Azaela Jordan Dawson; and siblings, George Dawson, Billy Dawson, Brenda Ross, Jo Ellen Barker, and Clifford Dawson.

He is survived by his daughters, Jordan Dawson and Kelly Dawson; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Toni Dawson; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
