SIMMONS, Mr. Charles Lomax, 71, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017. Funeral services for Mr. Simmons will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, October 21, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Ray Duncan and Rev. Clay Crum officiating. Interment will follow in Darien Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mr. Simmons spent much of his life serving his country, first with the United States Army and then with both the Luverne Police Department and the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Voncile Byrd Simmons, three sisters, Sue Caldwell, Peggy Jean Duncan, and Mary King, and two brothers, Junior Simmons and Lamar Simmons. Mr. Simmons is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Louise White Simmons, their four children, William (Deborah) Simmons, Mark (Shea) Simmons, Lee (Ashley) Simmons, and Lynn (D.J.) Brantley, seven grandchildren, Levi Holley, Emily Holley, Tanner Simmons, Carson Simmons, Hunter Simmons, Summer Simmons, and Tay Brantley, one great-granddaughter, Ally Holley, two sisters, Rebecca “Bake” Duncan and Debbie (Louie) McCullough, brother, James Randy (Bonnie) Simmons, and a host of nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Tyler Grant, Andy White, Tay Brantley, Tanner Simmons, Hunter Simmons, and Carson Simmons. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the Darien Cemetery Fund, c/o Anita West, 509 New Harmony Road, Luverne, Alabama. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:30 – 2pm.
