Mr. Charles Larry Smith, 75, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. A memorial service for Mr. Smith will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 1st, at Patsburg Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Ray Duncan officiating.
Mr. Smith considered himself a born farmer, and he thoroughly enjoyed taking care of his own farm throughout his life. One of his happiest places on earth was always on top of his tractor. He also spent 15 years working for NAPA delivering parts before retiring. He spent the remainder of his years simply enjoying time with his wife, children, and their families. His grandchildren were absolutely his pride and joy, and everyone knew it. He doted on them constantly, and gave them a true role model to look up to. Truly, he will be sorely missed by his family and all who knew him, but they are comforted by the knowledge that he has found peace in the arms of his Lord and Savior in Heaven.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his grandson, Dustin Sasser; parents, George & Eunice Butts Smith; and two sisters, Faye Colquitt and Jennifer Lynn Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Diane Ditmore Smith; four children, Melanie Bayman, Charles Larry (Toni) Smith Jr, Kerry (Andrew) Coggins, and Joey (Andrea) Brunson; nine grandchildren, Madison Layne Bayman, Larry Kane Smith, Jordan Sexton, Paige Bradley, Kaley Brunson, A.J. Brunson, Leilei Brunson, Caden Brunson, and Tucker Coggins; five siblings, Betty Perdue, Gaye Carter, Mary Moody, Pat (Paul) Floyd, and George Ray (Janice) Smith; numerous nieces & nephews; and his best friend, Melvin Watson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org, the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org, or one’s favorite charity.
They will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10 - 11 AM.
