Charles William Stephenson

February 2, 1932 — March 9, 2024

Luverne

Charles William Stephenson, 92, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation on Saturday, March 9th, 2024. A celebration of Charles's life will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, March 14th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Hogwood officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM.

Charles was just about the sweetest man on earth. There was nothing he wasn't willing to do to help people out, even if it was just loading groceries in your car outside of the grocery store. He simply had a heart big enough for everyone and never hesitated to show it. He was never blessed with children of his own, but he was most definitely the favorite uncle for his nieces and nephews. That's because Uncle Charles or "Bobo" was always down for whatever adventure the children wanted to take him on. Sometimes, it was just as simple as walking to the store for a Coca-Cola and some boiled peanuts & then just enjoying a lazy afternoon watching the traffic whiz by. After he moved to Luverne, the highlight of his day was walking around the main street area to visit with people at all the various businesses, and, let me tell you, his warm greeting could brighten anyone's day. Once he made friends with Belinda, he had a usual lunch date for the Chicken Shack so you were pretty much guaranteed to find him there and he was going to be sure to check on you as you walked by. At home, he cherished the affection and company of his two cats, Yellowhammer and Angel, and they definitely enjoyed receiving so much of his love and attention. Above all, Charles was just the kind of person who made the world a better place just by being him, and that is such a rare quality to have. He was loved by so very many people from his family and beyond, and his memory will continue to brighten anyone's day for many more years to come.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, William Tankersley & Era Belle Cornett Stephenson, and brother, Marvin Stephenson. He is survived by his siblings, Ann Taylor, Tom (Nancy) Stephenson, Albert D. (Doris) Stephenson, James Windham (Sue) Stephenson, and Jerry (Annette) Stephenson; nieces and nephews, Wanda (Mack) Williams, Danny (Angie) Taylor, Stevie (Windy) Taylor, Mandy (Will) Howard, Carol (Kenneth) Jeffcoat, Michael (Pam) Stephenson, and Randy (Kim) Stephenson; good friend, Belinda "B" Russell; and a host of loving great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and friends.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of both Crenshaw Community Hospital and Luverne Health & Rehabilitation.
