Charlie Thomas Graydon

October 12, 1942 — December 24, 2024

Luverne

Charlie Thomas Graydon, 82, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation on Tuesday, December 24th, 2024. A graveside service for Thomas will be held at 1 PM on Friday, December 27th, in Rutledge Cemetery with Rev. Justin Jacobs officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12 - 12:30 PM.

Thomas was a very well trained and talented machinist. He first worked at a factory in Greenville before moving to the shipyard in Mobile for several years. He eventually retired as a postal contractor who was responsible for delivering the mail from Eufala to Montgomery and many post offices in between. His love for how machinery worked carried on throughout his life for as long as he was able to do so. He not only loved fast cars, but he was very talented at tinkering on any vehicle with mechanical trouble. He was always a jack of all trades who was gifted with the ability to fix pretty much anything he had a mind to. In his free time, he loved any activity that could keep him outdoors, but he took special pride in his gardening, especially his roses, as well as making his own preserves from the figs he picked.

If you looked up the definition of strong-willed in any dictionary, you'd probably find Thomas's picture right there! He was fiercely independent and always enjoyed his own company. He was a man of few words but held firmly to his own opinions and beliefs, and there was no dissuading him once he had made up his mind. He wasn't much for social gatherings but, once he decided he liked you, you couldn't have asked for a more loyal and true blue friend! He certainly left an impression on most everyone he met and he will be missed by all those he leaves behind.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Frank & Glennie Pearl Simpler Graydon; sister, Carolyn Walker; and brothers-in-law, Charles Duncan and James Alford. He is survived by his sisters, Ruby Alford, Glenda (Jimmy) Campbell, and Betty Duncan; brother-in-law, Warren Walker; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
