CARTER, Mrs. Christine “Chris” Shows, 81, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord on April 4, 2018. Funeral services for Mrs. Carter will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, April 7, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Chris was born on Feb. 28, 1927 in Butler County, the eldest daughter of Dan and Cora Lee Shows. She grew up in the Starlington Community before her family moved to Montgomery, where she attended Saint Mary of Loretta School. Chris went on to marry Shelby Gibson of Brantley, and together they had two children. She spent several years living in the Bahamas before moving back to Brantley, where she married Ben Carter in 1978. Chris is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She enjoyed planting flowers, being active outside, and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters and, more recently, her five great-grandchildren. Chris also enjoyed sewing, fishing, word search puzzles, and could cook a mean pound cake. She is preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Ben Carter, parents; Dan and Cora Lee Shows; two sisters, Edna Liller and Betty “Dolly” Pilgreen; and brother, Willie Shows. Chris is survived by her daughter, Cindy Majors; sons, Gary (Cheryl) Gibson and Edwin (Genese) Mitchell; four granddaughters, Tiffaney (Reid) Furgason, Kendra Majors, Jamie (Keaton) Price, and Jena Price, five great-grandchildren, Kenleigh Bolling, Mason Chandler, Jase Price, Sawyer Price, and Noah Price; and her sister, Katherine Kersker. Active pallbearers will be Chris West, Bill Hilton, Shelton McMillon, Benny Lowery, Jerry Hudson, and Lesley Liller. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 - 8pm.
