Mrs. Christine Mount Ross, 94, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, January 21, 2019. Funeral services for Mrs. Ross will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, January 23, at Brantley Baptist Church with Rev. Travis Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Brantley Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home directing.
Christine was born in Glenwood, Alabama on March 23, 1924 to Roy and Bertha (nèe Bullard) Mount, and raised in Brundidge, Alabama. She spent much of her time in kitchens and cotton fields as a youngster. She married James Ross on January 18, 1941, and they were together for 59 years until his death in 2000. Christine worked as a seamstress, a cook in the Brantley School Cafeteria, and later retired from Vanity Fair in 1989. She was an active member of Brantley Baptist Church where she faithfully served the Vacation Bible School every summer. Christine was also an award-winning and innovative quilter, as well as an accomplished cook and baker. In her later years, she became an avid reader and thoroughly enjoyed the Western Channel.
Christine was preceded in death by her husband, James Ross, and her brother, Carroll Mount. She is survived by her two children, Ronald (Ramona) Ross and Linda (Dale) Graham; five grandchildren, Amy (Chris) McConnell, Kimberly Graham, Jonathan Ross, Jenny Ross, and Erin (Derek) Knighten; four great-grandchildren, Lydia McConnell, Ellis Knighten, Rebekah McConnell, and Elizabeth Knighten; two siblings, Merlene Bailey and Oliver (Delores) Mount; numerous nieces and nephews; and her cherished caregiver, Maverick Ball.
Active pallbearers will be Daryl Mount, Mike Morris, Blake Moates, Derek Knighten, John-John Knighten, and Chris McConnell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in her honor to Brantley Baptist Church. They will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10 - 11 AM.
