Christopher Dru Gooden

Christopher "Red" Dru Gooden, 60, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away suddenly in his home on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025. Funeral services for Chris will be held at 2 PM on Friday, April 25th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Travis Kidd officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Samson, Alabama at 4:30 PM with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday for one hour prior to the service.

"Copper Top" on the CB and "Granddaddy" to his beloved grandchildren, he always believed in the importance and value of a hard day's work and instilled that same belief in his family. In his free time, there were few things he enjoyed more than hunting and fishing, and I can guarantee no one could call a turkey better than Mr. Chris Gooden! Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family with every fiber of his being. He never failed to put them first and make sure they knew he loved them with his whole heart, no matter what. He was simply the best they could have ever asked God for and they knew it. Words cannot express how much Chris was loved nor how much he will be so very sorely missed. His loved ones will continue to treasure every precious memory made together for many more years to come.

Chris was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Gooden, and grandmother, Albrena Bowers. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Mona Crowe Gooden; their children, Kayla Nicole Crews, Kandi (Edgar) Walker, and Dusty (Brittany) Gooden; grandchildren, Ryan Gooden, Abigail Gooden, Lauren Gooden, Jaxson Walker, Hannah Gooden, Oliver Crews, Brenleigh Gooden, and Karter Walker; mother, Jean Bowers Hendrix; sister, Yolanda (John Mark) Herrington; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Mike Chandler, Tony Chandler, Yankee Frazier, Chris Moore, Danny Sport, and Leevi Holmes.
