NORMAN, Mr. Claude Benjamin "Ben" Jr, 72, a resident of Highland Home, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018. Funeral services for Mr. Norman will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 17, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Weeks officiating. Interment will follow in Sardis Cemetery in Highland Home with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Norman proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps and, afterwards, completed his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Troy State University. He went on to work with the Department of Environmental Management for 25 years. He was a modern-day Renaissance man, also working as a real estate broker, outdoor writer, and auctioneer. During his life, he served as a trustee for the South Alabama Electric Cooperative and as a school board member for the Crenshaw County Schools from 1988 - 1994, and he was also a member of the Southeast Outdoor Press Association. Mr. Norman will be well-remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who also loved hunting, fishing, writing, and talking on his ham radio. His good-natured humor and warm personality endeared him to all who knew him and he will be sorely missed.
Mr. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Benjamin Sr and Doris Eiland Norman. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Janice Taylor Norman; their three children, Katy (Eric) Elliott, Benji (Ellen) Norman, and Doug Norman; five grandchildren, Kyle Elliott, Charlie Elliott, Cody Elliott, Ben Norman IV, and Kaylee Norman; his brother, Bill Norman; nieces, Tara Norman Beasley, Melissa Phillips, and Nikki Johnson; nephews, Micky Norman, Bo Taylor, Chad Bowen, Judson Bowen, and Donald Hardyman; and his dear friend, James May.
Active pallbearers will be Steve Eiland, Ronny Rhodes, Joe Franklin, Johnny Taylor, James May, and Sam Coleman. David Bailey, Joe Faulk, Mark Hill, Andy Kimbro, Junior Madison, and the South Alabama Electric Cooperative Board of Trustees will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family requests that any memorial donations be made to The Cancer Wellness Foundation of Central Alabama, www.cancerwellnessfoundation.org or the Sardis Cemetery Fund.
They will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 - 11 AM.
