Clayborn Lucious Atwell

Mr. Clayborn Lucious Atwell, 88, a resident of Oneonta, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2019. A funeral service for Mr. Atwell will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, July 9, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Morgan officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Atwell proudly served his country for nine years with the United States Army. Later, he continued to serve his community as an Alabama state trooper for 24 years. He was also a member of the Free Masons and Easter Star, as well as a Shriner. In a life dedicated to service, he continued that as a deacon of the Philadelphia Baptist Church in Oneonta. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. His presence will be deeply missed by all those he leaves behind.

Mr. Atwell was preceded in death by his two children, Jacky Harold Atwell and Kathy Dianne Atwell; his parents, Lucious and Elvira Owens Atwell; and two sisters, Carrie Atwell Flowers and Clydie Atwell Flowers. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Katherine Flowers Atwell; their two grandchildren, Jacky Jr “J.J.” (Joanie) Atwell and Deanna Atwell (Bryan) Reeves; two great-grandchildren, Brooke Allyson Reeves and Briley Evelyn Atwell; his sister, Clemmie Atwell Hudson; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1 - 2pm.
