Obituary

Cynthia "Cindy" Thomas Roper, 64, a resident of Lapine, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 27, 2026, in her home. A graveside service for Cindy will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, April 30th, in Roper Family Cemetery with Rev. Dunford Cole officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing the service. Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.

Strength was a defining characteristic of Cindy's life, and she was a true lesson on how to handle all the slings and arrows life could through at her with true grace. A homemaker for much of her life, Cindy also loved shopping and random, spontaneous trips to the beach...just don't expect her to fool with that sand nonsense! At home she was a phenomenal cook of every classic Southern staple,

but her cornbread dressing, pecan pie, and red velvet cake were all family favorites. No surprise that Cindy made some of the best desserts given her massive sweet tooth, and you could always make her day with those Mounds candy bars and a warm Pepsi! She was a also a lifelong Alabama fan and loved her some Travis Kelce and the Chiefs. And you have to love a woman whose taste in music was as eclectic as loving both Randy Owen & his band Alabama and Ozzy Osbourne. She also found comfort in old classic TV shows and loved falling asleep to Leave It to Beaver every night.

Cindy was never happier than when she was looking after "her people," which could include not only her family, but also beloved friends and her entire community. She was truly a fixture in her community throughout much of her life because you could always count on Cindy to practice good Christian charity every chance she had. No surprise given her desire for everyone to always be happy and often played peacemaker during her life. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, and Nana to her beloved grandchildren. Cindy was a guaranteed fixture at every activity those precious grandbabies of hers had. They always knew, without fail, that she was in their corner, no matter what. Her door was always open with an ear to listen and a shoulder to lean on. Cindy was truly a blessing in the lives of her family, friends, and entire community, and that is a remarkable legacy to leave behind.

Cindy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, William Earl Roper; their son, Grant Roper; and her parents, Alvin Bernard & Vivian Lanelle Fisher Thomas. She is survived by her children, Brittany (Alex) Tindal, Cole Roper, and Blake (Grace) Roper; grandchildren, John Austin Roper, Emily Kate Tindal, and Caden Reed Tindal; siblings, Brenda (Steve) Newton and Gary "Gooch" Thomas; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Cole Roper, Blake Roper, John Austin Roper, Alex Tindal, Ricky Roper, John Hoffman, and Caden Tindal.
