Daisy Ruth Price Butson, 74, a resident of San Angelo, Texas and formerly of Crenshaw County, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Monday, July 1, 2024. Funeral services for Daisy will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, July 9th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Brother Stae Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Sardis Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service.
If there's one thing I can promise you, it's that, once you met Daisy, you were never going to forget her. Her keen intelligence and razor-sharp wit combined with a genuine love of people left an indelible impression on you that you weren't likely to forget. That same intelligence, along with her meticulous organizational skills, ultimately landed her in a job she considered the highlight of her professional career, that of secretary to the equally unforgettable Alabama governor, George Wallace. It should come as no surprise to anyone that there was likely no one better suited to working with a man like Wallace than Daisy and she thoroughly enjoyed her years in his office. Later in life, she embarked on a new career path as she owned and managed an RV park in Texas alongside her cherished husband, David. There's little doubt that her natural warmth and welcoming demeanor helped their park to thrive.
Despite leaving the public sector, Daisy never lost her passion for service within her community, which led to her taking on the challenging role of Advancement Coordinator for The Boy Scouts of America. It was a role she accepted with relish as it not only allowed her the opportunity to help guide and mold the lives of so many young men as they worked towards attaining the ultimate goal of Eagle Scout but provided her with the chance to spend more time with her son. Having Adam later in life made their relationship even more precious to Daisy as she happily told everyone she could that he was truly her proudest and most cherished achievement. She was certainly the best mom he could have ever hoped for and treasured every moment they had together.
In her free time, Daisy had two particular hobbies she was enthusiastic about, music and reading. When it came to her taste in music, nothing could beat two classic kings of their genres like Elvis Presley and George Strait. Given her love for the true crime drama, it's no surprise that she eagerly awaited each new release from John Grisham, the finest in the craft of legal thrillers. When she chose to immerse herself in a little TV, it was usually either true crime or classic BBC shows....so, she could plan a murder and do it all with a touch of British class and humor, should she choose to! Daisy was also the family historian. She not only dedicated countless hours to genealogical research that could be shared by many more generations to come, but she was also the glue who held her large and boisterous Price family together as she was the one who usually ensured everyone got checked on and included in family events. She also counted herself fortunate to have been blessed with so many cherished pets throughout her life and enjoyed spoiling every single one of them as much as she could every day. When it comes to passionate hobbies, however, there was nothing that topped Alabama Football. On Saturdays in the Fall, it was guaranteed that, if Alabama was playing, Daisy was going to be watching while she cheered them on to victory. She especially enjoyed the last almost two decades of unmatched success under Coach Nick Saban, though I'm sure she only let every other person she met know about it!
Obviously, Daisy was a woman of remarkable intellect and passionate pursuits, but there's just not enough words to capture how incredibly special she was. She was well known wherever she went for her own particular mixture of Southern charm and brutal honesty. As mentioned, she loved everyone, and would do just about anything for anyone, but she was also not the type to suffer fools gladly....and Lord help you if you managed to get on her bad side! There was also no better storyteller, and she could keep a host entertained for hours with all of the stories from her life experiences she collected over the years. Daisy was absolutely a Southern lady through and through, but she was also a straight shooter who never left you guessing where you stood with her. So, she was, basically, a perfect amalgam of Blanche and Dorothy from the Golden Girls, which blessed her with a personality that endeared her to everyone who met her (and stayed on her good side). Truly, she was a pleasure to be around, and the world has certainly dimmed as it is now bereft of her light.
Daisy was preceded in death by her parents, Shuley Lamar & Margaret Melodine Owens Price, and siblings, Margaret Faurot, Mildred Thomas, Judy Hodges, Angie Price, Harry Price, Herold Price, Gerry Price, and Mickey Price. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, David Butson; their beloved son, Adam Butson, and his fiancée, KC Condor; sisters, Marsha Scroggins and Shirley Martinez; her beloved furbabies and constant companions, Midas & Hank; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Adam Butson, Quinn Nugent, Joey Butson, Zach Price, Cage Furr, and Michael Petty.
As Maya Angelou once said, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Daisy made people feel heard, understood, and, above all, loved, and that is a legacy that will live on for many more years to come.
