Daniel "Dan" Joseph Hudson, 72, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, February 14th, 2025. A celebration of Dan's life will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, February 20th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Simmons officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday for one hour prior to the service.
Dan proudly served his country with the United States Army for 20 years before retiring at the rank of staff sergeant. After his retirement, he worked several warehouse jobs over the years, from making insulators for electrical poles, food trays for takeout, to making car parts at Smart. Dan firmly believed in the value of hard work because he was determined to provide the best life possible for the family he loved so dearly. In fact, his generosity of spirit meant that his hard work would also allow him to help others when they needed it and that was always extremely important to him throughout his life.
In his free time, Dan's favorite pastime was always looking for a great fishing hole. His dear friend, Charles Lowrey, knew how much he loved their fishing trips and made sure to take him on his last trips before he passed and Dan's family will always be so grateful to him for that. Dan was as strong-willed as they come; he was "hard-headed" long before he had a metal plate in his head! However, he was also a gregarious soul who loved talking to people and getting to know them. He was blessed with an inquisitive mind who loved knowledge, especially history, and could whip anyone when it came to trivia. In his younger days, he loved playing the guitar, because he adored music, and completing various wood-working projects.
Dan was also a true dog whisperer because not only did his own dogs adore him, but also everyone else's! Above all, Dan was a completely selfless person who never failed to put other's ahead of himself, as well as being a devoted husband and father. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy of treasured memories and laughs for his loved ones to hold close to their hearts for many more years to come.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Lee Hudson & Erma Nell Nelson, and brothers, John Hudson and Dwan Hudson. He is survived by his loving spouse of 44 years, Wanda Cauthen Hudson; their son, David Joshua Hudson; sister, Teresa Hudson; sister-in-law, Vicki Hudson; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to one of Dan's favorite charities, either the Shriner's Children's Hospital or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
