IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Debra Jean
Jones
March 25, 1955 – February 14, 2026
Debra Sasser Jones, 70, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away at Crenshaw Community Hospital on Saturday, February 14th, 2026. Funeral services for Debra will be held at 2 PM on Monday, February 16th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Brother Clay Crum and Rev. Johnny Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday for one hour prior to the service.
Debra had an absolute heart of gold and you simply couldn't find anyone better or more loving of her fellow man than she was. Whether she was taking care of little ones in daycare or taking care of her customers at Steppin' Out & 61 on Main, you could guarantee you were going to be treated like a member of her family. No one could hype you up when picking out something to wear or was willing to sacrifice her Friday night to make over a hundred shirts for a family reunion like Debra was. It helped that she not only truly loved people in general, which is not an easy thing to do when you work with the public for as many years as she did, and an amazing gift for gab. Trust me, one trip to the grocery store with Debra, who was going to make the rounds talking to every single employee there, and you would be completely caught up on everything happening in Luverne! That being said, if you told her to meet you there at 2, I hope you weren't expecting to actually see her at 2. Chronically late was most definitely Debra's middle name, but she was always worth the wait!
Debra was always up for a trip to the beach with some deep sea fishing and/or dinner at Captain Anderson's Seafood with her family. And nothing said true love like all the years she spent going to Tuscaloosa to the Alabama games with her husband, Mike, when she was an avid Auburn fan. She also enjoyed attending the local football games and simply being a part of her cherished community over the years. She certainly brightened up the day of anyone who ran into her around town because she always remembered you and just made you feel special. But there was no one she loved like the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who called her "Nana." I mean, she loved her children, but we all know it's those grands who truly stole her heart. There just really aren't enough words to describe just how special Debra was in the lives of both her beloved family and the community at large. She will be so very sorely missed in all of their lives, and that's such an incredible legacy to leave behind.
Debra was preceded in death by her son, John Michael Jones; father, Hartwell Sasser; and siblings, Luverne Sasser and Danny Sasser. She is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Mike Jones; children, Jason (Megan) Sasser, Thomas (Catherine) Jones, Greg (Heather) Jones, and Elliott (Candy) Jones; grandchildren, Lacey (Matthew) Sipper, Katelyn Jones, Daniel (Susan) Jones, Savannah (Josh) Hermeling, Mitchell Sasser, Andrew Jones, Mari Michael Jones, John Lindsey Jones, Alyssa Wolfe, Jude Jones, Logan Byrd, Whitlee (James) Morris, Jay (Cammi) Mullis, Blaze (Alyssa) Bass, and Colton Jones; great-grandchildren, Emilee Sipper, Lorali Sipper, Laney Jones, Warren Hermeling, Ember Bass, and J.W. Bass; mother, Ruth Worley; sister, Deanna Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and precious friends.
Active pallbearers will be Greg Jones, Elliott Jones, Daniel Jones, Thomas Jones, Jason Sasser, and Mitchell Sasser. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Jones, Colton Jones, John Lindsey Jones, and Jude Jones.
