Don Carlos Kimbro, went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday January 23, 2022 at the age of 92 peacefully at home while in the care of his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and devoted friend!
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lila Minnette Brunson Kimbro; son, Robert Vann “Bob” Kimbro, and daughter-in-law, Deborah Collins Kimbro; son, Donald Carlos “Donnie” Kimbro, and daughter-in-law, Cathy J. Kimbro; granddaughters, Nichole “Nicki” Larimore, Sandi (Aaron) Gorman; Stephanie Lynn (Craig) Vaught; great-grandchildren, Haley Dykes, Grant Dean, Blake Dean and Austin Gorman; many cousins, nephews, and nieces; and sister-in-law, Shirley Vann Jeffcoat.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Vann Kimbro; an infant son; parents, Jennings B. Kimbro and Myrtle Lee Weatherford Kimbro; his brother, Rex Lewis Kimbro and wife Suwannee Bozeman Kimbro; his brother, Joe Douglas “Pete” Kimbro and wife Mary Ella “Mae” Tompkins Kimbro; his sister, Mary Kimbro Payne and husband Tennent Lamont “T.L.” Payne; his sister, Jeanette Kimbro Sirmon and husband Rufus Mallett Sirmon.
Mr. Kimbro started life on the family farm in rural Crenshaw County at an early age farming, plowing behind mules, cutting pulp wood, driving log trucks and driving a school bus at age 15. He became an Alabama State Trooper in 1952 and retired in 1987 after 35 years as a State Trooper. He retired as a Captain in the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, Auto Thief Division. He then had a brief career as a private investigator with T.L. Payne, gaining many funny stories about their assignments.
He was an avid fisherman and camper in his RV with family and friends, though most of his fishing was spent baiting Minnette’s hook and untangling her line! He enjoyed sports, even playing baseball after high school, and he loved showing off his great curve ball and knuckleball! He was also an ardent Alabama football fan.
He will be remembered for his friendship, kindness and love of family, especially those annual Kimbro family Thanksgiving gatherings. His willingness to help anyone and his ability to make others feel as special as he felt about them. Galatians 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”
He was a long-time member and Deacon at Capitol Heights Church of Christ in Montgomery, AL and recent member of Dalriada Church of Christ in Montgomery, AL after Capitol Heights closed. He was a true and faithful servant of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and to his Church. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, he truly missed worshipping at his Church and partaking of the Lord’s Supper!
A graveside service will be on Friday, January 28th, at 2 PM in Kimbro Cemetery in Dozier, Alabama with Brother Doug Smith officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Active pallbearers will be Grant Dean, Blake Dean, Ricky Kimbro, Jason Brunson, Mike Payne, Steve Sirmon, and Steve Vann.
Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.
