Don Herbert Sasser

Don Herbert Sasser, 81, a resident of Troy, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, February 5th, 2025. Funeral services for Don will be held at 2 PM on Friday, February 7th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Hayes officiating. He will then be laid to rest beside his beloved wife in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Don was a proud member of the Brantley High School Class of 1961. He went on to study at Troy State University before joining the United States Army Reserves. He proudly served with the Army Reserves for seven years before being honorably discharged. Also, Don worked as an engineer and plant manager for Alatex Textile Industry. After working for more than 20 years with Alatex, Don became a small business owner for many years. He ended his career as a successful salesman. Don was known for being honest, trustworthy and caring to all who knew him personally and professionally.

In his free time, Don indulged in his love of sports, especially football, by becoming an official for the Alabama High School Athletic Association. He was a referee for more than 40 years with the AHSAA. He was immensely proud of being named "Official of the Year" for the state of Alabama in 2004. Although he enjoyed his Friday night football outings, he most enjoyed spending time at home with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He cherished his role as "Papa" to his granddaughters more than anything else. He was a man a few words, but his loved ones always knew how important they were to him through his deeds and actions. Words cannot describe how much he will be missed by all those who knew and loved him, but they know he is overjoyed to be reunited with his "better half" in their heavenly reward.

Don was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Jean Sasser, and his parents, Wilson & Wilma Kimbro Sasser. He is survived by his loving sons, Scott Sasser and Chris (Kim) Sasser; granddaughters, Hailey Sasser and Peyton Sasser; siblings, Douglas Sasser and Magdalene Sasser Petrey; dear family friends, the Sullivan Family and caregiver Lylah McConnell; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Stallion Sasser, Stetson Sasser, Sterling Sasser, Tony Williams, Mark Sullivan, and Robin Sullivan.
