Donald Alton Baker

December 11, 1956 — October 10, 2026

Donald Alton Baker, 69, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 10th, 2026, at Baptist Medical Center South. A celebration of Donald's life will be held at a later time.

Donald was a hardworking man who never met a stranger and truly enjoyed being around people. Jolly, outgoing, and always enthusiastic, he had a way of making everyone feel welcome. After spending more than 40 years driving a truck, he especially enjoyed his time at home with his family. Whether he was fishing, cutting the grass, or simply spending time with those he loved, Donald was happiest enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

Affectionately known as "PawPaw" to his grandchildren, Donald dearly loved his family and treasured the time they spent together. He was also a member of Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, where he loved his church family and always looked forward to the fellowship they shared.

Donald was also a phenomenal cook who was especially known for his delicious dressing. He could even bake a pound cake every bit as good as his wife June's! He loved good food, good company, and the opportunity to share both with the people he cared about.

Donald was preceded in death by his son, Brent Glidewell; parents, Richard Alvin & Betty Jean Lawrence Baker; and brother, DeWayne Baker. He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Wanda June Baker; their children, Byron (Calaine Darby) Baker, Robby (Melinda) Baker, and Christy (Mark) Williams; grandchildren, Kody, Brody, Caden, Gavin, Brooklyn, and Dalton; sister, Betty Mock; sisters-in-law, Diane Presley and Teresa Lassiter;brother-in-law, Ricky Barnett; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
