Mr. Donald Edward Bell, 59, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, July 15, 2019. Funeral services for Mr. Bell will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, July 17, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Brother Guy Simmons officiating. Interment will follow in Sardis Cemetery with Brother Charles Sipper officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Bell was good with his hands and, so, spent much of his life working in construction. In his free time, he loved watching the Alabama Crimson Tide play football and his favorite TV show, “Gunsmoke.” He also loved classic cars, his Slim Jims, and listening to his favorite band, Lynyrd Skynyrd. He had a real affinity for animals, and took excellent care of his canine companion, “Little Mama,” as well as the hummingbirds around his home and any stray cats that happened to wander by. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, who was just as beloved in return. His family even made sure he got to fulfill his dream of travelling along Route 66 before he passed away. He will be tremendously missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Mr. Bell was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dulin and Lonie Owens; his parents, Ernie Lee and Helen Owens Bell; and five brothers, Charlie Ray Bell, James Lester Bell, Bill Lee Bell, Johnny Mack Bell, and Jessie Fred Bell. He is survived by his four loving children, Nickie (Shelton) Morrell, Nina (John) Eiland, Nicole (Anthony) Goodwin, and Donald “Scooter” (Megan) Bell Jr; twelve grandchildren, Torrie (Chad) Free, Savannah (Chase Haws) Mitchell, Shelly Mitchell, Auburn Morrell, Brandyn Taylor, Celia Eiland, Charlotte Eiland, Brian Goodwin, Cody Goodwin, Grayson Goodwin, Lorelei Bell, and Maddy Thornton; three siblings, Ernie (Tina) Bell, Jimmy Bell, and Laura Jo (Jeremy) Scoggins; special friend, Diana Hawthorne; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Active pallbearers will be Chris Dewberry, Johnny Bell, Cody Goodwin, Brian Goodwin, Chase Haws, Chad Free, and Adam Bell. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1 - 2pm.
