The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday for one hour prior to the service time.
Donnie was known far and wide in the timber community as "Red Fox" during the 37 years he drove a log truck. He thoroughly enjoyed his time on the road and the opportunity to visit different places, but happily retired 13 years ago. There were few things he enjoyed more than anything he could do outside. He was an avid fisherman, especially when it came to bass, and also relished the early mornings he spent turkey hunting. That love of the outdoors extended to carefully tending a garden over the years, as well as just basking in the simple times he could patiently spend digging in the dirt with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Come Saturdays in the fall, it was guaranteed that he was going to find a TV at some point in the day so that he could cheer on the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Donnie knew the joys of a laidback, simple life. He had a fantastic sense of humor and loved sharing it with everyone he knew. You could be assured that if he took the time to good-naturedly pick on you, then he definitely liked you. It didn't take much to entertain him as he was easily amused, and that amusement was often contagious with all of those around him. He also possessed a gregarious nature, and life was good whenever he could sit down with his family or buddies to share stories or just shoot the breeze. Donnie was as easygoing as anyone you'd meet, however, rest assured that there was a certain way to do things...and the right way was his way! Above all, Donnie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who truly made a different in the lives of those around him. Even after 76 years on this earth, his loved ones still feel this was far too soon, which says more about the man he was than anything else ever could.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Harper & Mittie Helmes Bryan. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Faye Reeves Bryan; children, Sharon (Scott) Hudson, Kevin Bryan, and Tammy (Larry) Holmes; grandchildren, Hillary Hudson, Billie (Connor) Hammon, Bailey Bryan, Scotty Hudson, Megan (Kyle) McDaniel, and Matthew (Summer) Holmes; and great-grandchildren, McKinley Hammon, Harper Hammon, Remi Holmes, Rhett Holmes, Lindy McDaniel, Emmett McDaniel, and Murphy McDaniel.
Active pallbearers will be Connor Hammon, Scotty Hudson, Matthew Holmes, C.E. Beck, Wayne Powell, Steve Prescott, Kyle McDaniel.
