Dorothy Ann Pouncey

October 25, 1950 — November 15, 2022

Grady

Ms. Dorothy "Dot" Ann Pouncey, 72, a resident of Grady, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Tuesday, November 15th, 2022. Funeral services for Dot will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, November 17th, at Mountain Hill Baptist Church with Rev. J.C. Turner, Rev. Tommy Norman, and Brother Stae Sanders officiating. Interment will follow across the street in Bethlehem Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 12:30 - 2 PM.

Dot was a dedicated Decision Review Officer with the United States Department of Veteran's Affairs in Montgomery where she worked from 1969 until her retirement in 2006, and then put in three more years on contract with them because they just couldn't do without her. Beyond that, her primary job in life was just being the best person possible in the lives of all those who knew and loved her. She was the glue who held her family together. She was the epitome of a good Christian woman who sacrificed all of herself for those she loved, regardless if they were blood or not. Dot had a smile that could light up a room and a personality that was unmatched. She was always first in line to render aid to all those who needed it. Strangers were nothing more than friends she just hadn't met yet. She was truly an angel on Earth to all those whose lives she touched.

Words cannot possibly express the tremendous love and pride Dot had for her only child. Leah was the light of her life, and she made that clear with everything she did. She opened her heart to her son-in-law as well and was a welcome fixture in their lives throughout the years. She was the oldest of three sisters, and loved each of them as fiercely as she could. They were not "just" sisters, but lifelong best friends. Dot was also a devoted aunt to a host of nieces and nephews of multiple generations and she made sure everyone knew her door was always open to those who needed her. She was a safe port in the storm of lives of many over the years, and those who did never forgot it. Dot leaves behind an unparalleled legacy of love and sacrifice as an example for others to emulate. If they do so, the world would certainly be a much better place.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents, James Roy & Gladys Horton Pouncey. She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Leah & Thomas Christopher; sisters, Elaine Lowe & Lynn (Johnny) Frazier; nieces, Jessica Horne, Brookelyn Frazier, Danielle Caffey, and Haley Peavy; nephews, Steve Lowe, Dereck Lowe, Donny Frazier, Dalton Lowe, Sterling Lowe, Bennett Horne, Hollis Horne, Bryson Frazier, William Lowe, Braden Lowe, and Wesley Peavy; and other cherished family, Jerry (Crystal) Russell, Mike Russell, Linda Russell, and Daniel Sanders.

Active pallbearers will be Donny Frazier, Johnny Ray Frazier, Steve Lowe, Dereck Lowe, Tim Graham, and George Tatum. Honorary pallbearers will be Bennett Horne, Hollis Horne, and Bryson Frazier.
