Highland Home

Dorthey Kelley White Reeves, 82, a resident of Highland Home, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025. Funeral services for Dorthey will be held at 2 PM on Friday, July 25th, at Sardis Church of Christ with Brother John Dickinson officiating. Interment will follow in Sardis Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service.

There are few people who are as gracious, kind, and caring as Dorthey was. Despite all the slings and arrows life threw at her, she still kept her good humor and generous, loving attitude. And her love of people was always on display and she loved to talk to people anywhere and everywhere she went. Her family can attest that she was the best cook around. There was nothing she couldn't cook or bake, but her banana pudding and pound cake were just absolutely scrumptious...though her grandchildren and great-grandchildren had a particular affection for her famous bread & syrup dish! When she wasn't working up magic in her kitchen, she loved spending as much time as she could outside. In fact, she had a favorite "shade tree" under which you could usually find her with a cup of the coffee she drank throughout the day.

To keep her mind active, Dorthey loved her puzzles and crossword puzzles. It's no doubt her home was her absolutely favorite place to be on this earth, but the Smoky Mountains where they often took summer camping trips to was most definitely a close second. Above all, she was a devoted mother and "Nennie" to her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she loved beyond measure. Words cannot express how terribly she will be missed by all those who knew and loved her, but they know she is now embraced in the arms of her loving Savior, Jesus Christ, in heaven above,

Dorthey was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Earl Dawson White, and parents, Ralph W. Kelley Sr & Eunice Elizabeth Sexton Clayton. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Lynn (Tray) Mims, Kelly (Eddie) Goins, and Dawn (Andy) Martin; grandchildren, Brittney (Johnny ) Strickland, Bobby Earl (Kelly) Goins, Haley (Scott) Graham, Chad (Tabitha) Dickey, Kaylan (Connor) Martin, and Adrianna (Kyle) Goins; great-grandchildren, Sarah Strickland, Luke Strickland, Jackson Graham, Mason Goins, RussLyn Goins, Zayne Goins, and Weston Goins; siblings, Ralph W. (Lacy) Kelley Jr, Shirley King, and Bobby Jean Hudson; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Andy Martin, Scott Graham, Johnny Strickland, Chad Dickey, Bobby Earl Goins, and Eddie Goins.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Luverne Health & Rehabilitation, especially those on Hall Four, as well as Dr. Clint Kilcrease and Southern Care Hospice for their loving care of Dorthey.
