Douglas Lee Davis, 82, a resident of Lapine, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, April 18th, 2025, while surrounded by his family. A celebration of Doug's life will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, April 27th, at Magnolia Baptist Church with Pastor Chuck Francisco officiating.
Doug, or "PeePaw" as he was affectionately known to his beloved grandchildren, was just love and caring personified. He had a huge heart that he wore on his sleeve, especially when it came to children. There is an untold number of children to whom he will always be "Uncle Doug," regardless if they shared any DNA or not. You could count on him showing up to cheer them on at all the ball games or teach them how to hunt and fish, as he did his own children and grandchildren. He was definitely an avid hunter of deer and turkey, with a den full of antlers and turkey beards to prove it!
Obviously, there were few things Doug enjoyed more than being outside. If he wasn't hunting or fishing, you were sure to find him outside tending to his bountiful garden. It was always overflowing with watermelons, purple hull peas, corn, tomatoes, and okra (just to name a few), and he never failed to share that bounty with not only his family but also his friends and neighbors. Given that garden encompassed about 5 acres that was more perfectly maintained that most people's front yards, it's no surprise that everyone reaped the rewards of his dedicated work.
Above all, Doug was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was the rock his family was built upon. There was nothing he wouldn't do for them....even when it came to foot races and ugly Christmas sweaters!! As long as they kept his sweet tooth supplied, preferably with red velvet cake or peppermints, he was game for anything they wanted him to do. He was usually the entertainment for any family gathering as he kept everyone in stitches with his antics that will be sorely missed from now on. He made the big events like Thanksgiving and Christmas so very special, but he also had a gift for making even the smallest gestures display the enormity of his love and he leaves behind a family legacy which reflects how very special he was.
Doug was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda D. Peters; grandson, Aaron Carmichael; parents, Z.G. & Beatrice Hall Davis; and siblings, J.C. Davis, Doyle Davis, Otis Davis, Bill Davis, Morris Davis, Christine Smith Crowder, Shelby Jefferson, Etta Davis, and Robert Davis. He is survived by his loving wife of over 61 years, Ronna Davis; their children, Lamar (Dana) Davis and Teresa (Whit) Dekle; grandchildren, Hannah Davis, Hayden (Tristyn) Davis, Jessica (Jordan) Quiles, Kirsten (Justin) Carmichael, and Will Dekle; great-grandchildren, Braden Osborne, Hudson Davis, Jayden Quiles, Tripp Caudle, Collins Caudle, and Parker Caudle; sister, Sylvia Coyle; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
