Douglas McArthur Furr

August 22, 1942 — April 19, 2026

Douglas McArthur Furr, 83, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, April 19th, 2026. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 PM to 7 PM. There will be a private celebration of his life held at a later time.

Doug loved to tell jokes and was known for his storytelling, especially when it came to tales from his younger days. He was an expert cabinet maker who took great pride in his work, and, in his free time, he enjoyed fishing, especially when he could share the time with family or friends. Doug also proudly served his country for eight years and carried that sense of duty with him throughout his life.

Doug most definitely never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. To his grandchildren, he was simply "PawPaw," the name he loved the best. He loved traveling with his wife, Teresa, and if there was music playing, there was a good chance you'd find him out on the dance floor. More than anything, Doug was a good man-a devoted husband, dad, brother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

Doug was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Brittney Nicole McCormick; an infant great-grandson; his parents, Barney & Celia Cannon Furr; and siblings, Jewell Crook, Lamar Furr, Lula Mae Burgans, Frances Burgans, and Jimmy Furr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 12 years, Teresa Yates Furr; sons, Douglas Wayne (Sherry) Furr and Christopher Ray (Freda) Furr; grandchildren, Courtney McCormick, Kelsey Furr, Tyler Furr, Sarah Furr, Asa Furr, and Shawn Douglas Furr; five beloved great-grandchildren; siblings, Howard Furr, J.W. Furr, & Faye McCarthy; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends
